When there are decisions to be made, a lot of the time you can trust your instincts. However, it's worth consulting specialists if major decisions have to be made that you don't feel confident or qualified to make. If you seek advice, weigh it carefully before acting, especially if you've paid good money for it. Don't keep a dog and bark yourself.
Listen to the advice of people who may be more experienced than you, such as a business adviser. It's not about pride; it's about running an effective business, so be prepared to seriously consider advice that might not sound right to you. Consult a number of people to help you get a wide view on the matter.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people pay me good money for business or tax advice and then ignore it. I wouldn't mind so much if they didn't then come back and tell me my advice wasn't worth what they paid for it. When that happens, I usually show them the notes I kept of our meeting.
